MIPS introduces new regulation for clients exporting containers
MIPS (DP World Maputo), the cargo terminal operator at the Maputo Port, has introduced a new regulation for clients exporting containers with effect from the 1 June 2010. The regulation stipulates that containers destined for export, either full or empty, must be stacked in the terminal ready for shipment at least 24 hours before the export vessel that will carry the containers to their destination arrives. Customs formalities must also have been dealt with by this time. Appointment of General Manager – Maputo International Port Services
Mr Joost Kruijning, SVP and Managing Director of DP World, Africa Region, announced the appointment of Mr. Ricardo Schlechter as new General Manager of MIPS (Maputo International Port Services) effective March 1st, 2010.
Mr Schlechter has been working with DP World since 2007 as DP World Country Manager in Venezuela and was also involved with various other DP World Americas projects and brings with him over 20 years of experience in the Maritime and Port industry. (MCLI)

Appointment of CEO Port Maputo Development Company
The Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) Board of directors has announced the appointment of Mr Jorge Ferraz as the new CEO of MPDC with effect from 01 March 2010.
Mr Ferraz previously held the position of Managing Director at MIPS (Maputo International Port Services) Mozambique, which he joined in December 1999. He brings with him 30 years experience within the Maritime and Port sector.
Mr Ferraz has been associated with the Maputo Port for the last 10 years as Managing Director of MIPS SA – operator of the Port Maputo container terminal, whose majority shareholding is held by the global operator DP World.
Mr Ferraz has been directly associated with MPDC since 2008, having served as Chairman on the MPDC Board for the past two years, a position which will be assumed by Ronne Holtshausen, currently a Board Director of MPDC. (MCLI)

Winds of change at Port Maputo
The Port of Maputo in neighboring Mozambique is fast becoming a viable alternative to Durban Harbour in Kwa-Zulu Natal for handling large cargo volumes from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Maputo is Southern Africa's nearest deep water port to Asian markets and boasts a $200 million investment project, which will be completed in the next three years. Maputo Increases Capacity for Fresh Produce Exports
The IDC (Industrial Development Corporation) and a consortium of private equity partners have just concluded a financial package to build and operate a state of the art fresh produce export Terminal in Maputo port. The project is valued at R30 million and will have two major shareholders, Port Elizabeth Cold Store and a Mozambican company, Fidelity Investments.
